The Philips Hue White A21 bulb at 1600 lumens sounds brilliant. Those new upgrades look (mostly) great though. Replacing the broken Somneo with a Hue Bloom would be a downgrade and make it more complicated for her to use. She has always had trouble waking up in the morning, but with the Somneo she said she pretty much always wakes up before it gets to the alarm stage. And if you want to play an alarm at the end (if you haven't woken up) you have to setup some messy solution on your phone/alarm where you match the times, and then if you wake up before the alarm you have to manually disable it.īesides as I mentioned, I don't use this, it was a gift for my mother.
But none of them can properly match the colour changes and output of the Somneo wake up light, most bulbs can't properly emit the very low temperatures at the start, jitter/jump between outputs when ramping up. I had a look into the other options like the Hue Go, or LIFX bulbs in a lamp (Hue ones still can't match the colour temps). It also has some other features like wake. I found out that they hadn't released the smart version at the time in the UK (althoughįor reference with the smart one connects to your wifi network and you can just set alarms on your phone and they work on the unit itself.

So I bought my mother a Philips Somneo sleep and wake-up light for Christmas.Īt first I was quite annoyed as I thought the version I bought was the smartphone version, but it wasn't, it was just the plain old manual control one, but she was happy with it and really loved it in the winter (she has sleep problems and it really helped).
